My inspiration stemmed from taking care of kids over the summer, at first, I wanted to depict their innocent-like perspectives which then transformed into an almost coming-of-age story. This story illustrates a different person's perspective in each piece accompanied by a pose poem to depict a little more about their identity. Although they range in age the pieces as well as the pose poem carry you through not just one person but five people’s lives.
Josephine wall, an English fantasy painter who influenced my project, uses bubbles within some of her work to depict another realm. The piece that I focused on the most while creating this project is Seasons of Life, which illustrates a little girl’s life through bubbles. My composition however does not focus on one person entirely but shows a variety of different perspectives or in this case little memory bubbles.
An Adolescent development psychology course helped influence my work and allowed me to structure it more by adding the individual’s social and cognitive development that’s impacted by their surroundings or what they see every day. The piece Goodbye, based on the book What Happened to Goodbyes displays this well since it reflects a pre-adolescent undergoing a reflection of self-identity.
I used a variety of mixed media, some pieces like the Baltimore one started off with just colored pencils followed by acrylic paint for the background. Once that was made, I took a photo of that image printed and in addition printed digital images done on Procreate, and Modge podged it onto the glass. Once that was done, I used acrylic again to layer more bubbles on top of the glass. I followed this process throughout each composition to help communicate through layering an individual’s memory retrieval.

Title: Beginnings
It began with a little bit of chalk and a wide gaping mouth attempting to grasp a hold of one piece without the need of his hands nor feet. This evolved into hands reaching then scribbling then tug a war with siblings, throwing the chalk into the sky and watching that dust fly. Suddenly the crawling turned to walking, then running, then leaping to the next activity with no capability of words except mama…

Title: Goodbyes
inspiration: A book called What happened to Goodbyes
Away we went from everything we knew to start from scratch, but a new place became too frequent. With each town a new identity of myself was born, and after a while each house became more vacant till we lived like ghosts, until I was a ghost with the only purpose of floating onto the next…

“Next stop” the bus driver told me. It is always the next stop, even in life we all are always looking to the next, next house, next job, next hobby to occupy our time, and the scariest one yet, next chapter of our life. It is an unsettling cycle of wants until one day we settle to stop and reflect. As I sit with my hands reaching out for the yellow wire to stop the bus I try to reflect and appreciate…
Appreciate the time I had, the memories I shared and the family I love. The joyous occasion of hearing little feet rummaging through the halls of the wooden floor, I could not have asked for more. Three loving daughters that have grasped my artistic ability and blessed their children with such. Who knew rolling out my daily morning routine of coffee, bread with butter, accompanied by a newspaper in one hand and a sketch pad in another would be shared by little hands working on their own tiny art, exclaiming “grandpa look”. I now see all the struggles they face, and I dearly hope they find themselves in the right place as I look from above in admiration…
